They take considerable umbrage that the Roman Catholic Church will not admit women to the priesthood but seem oblivious to honour killings done in the name of Islam. They must think this is just another quaint custom, like suttee in the Hindu religion, which enrich the multicultural mosaic which is Canada.

Julius Caesar and the Cilician Pirates

In 75 BC, Julius Caesar was captured by Cilician pirates, who infested the Mediterranean sea. The Romans had never sent a navy against them, because the pirates offered the Roman senators slaves, which they needed for their plantations in Italy. As a consequence, piracy was common.
In chapter 2 of his Life of Julius Caesar, the Greek author Plutarch of Chaeronea (46-c.120) describes what happened when Caesar encountered the pirates. The translation below was made by Robin Seager.


First, when the pirates demanded a ransom of twenty talents, Caesar burst out laughing. They did not know, he said, who it was that they had captured, and he volunteered to pay fifty. Then, when he had sent his followers to the various cities in order to raise the money and was left with one friend and two servants among these Cilicians, about the most bloodthirsty people in the world, he treated them so highhandedly that, whenever he wanted to sleep, he would send to them and tell them to stop talking.
For thirty-eight days, with the greatest unconcern, he joined in all their games and exercises, just as if he was their leader instead of their prisoner. He also wrote poems and speeches which he read aloud to them, and if they failed to admire his work, he would call them to their faces illiterate savages, and would often laughingly threaten to have them all hanged. They were much taken with this and attributed his freedom of speech to a kind of simplicity in his character or boyish playfulness.
However, the ransom arrived from Miletus and, as soon as he had paid it and been set free, he immediately manned some ships and set sail from the harbor of Miletus against the pirates. He found them still there, lying at anchor off the island, and he captured nearly all of them. He took their property as spoils of war and put the men themselves into the prison at Pergamon. He then went in person to [Marcus] Junius, the governorof Asia, thinking it proper that he, as praetor in charge of the province, should see to the punishment of the prisoners. Junius, however, cast longing eyes at the money, which came to a considerable sum, and kept saying that he needed time to look into the case.
Caesar paid no further attention to him. He went to Pergamon, took the pirates out of prison and crucified the lot of them, just as he had often told them he would do when he was on the island and they imagined that he was joking.

Contrast this with the catch and release policy of the NATO. Dutch commandos capture Somali pirates who hijacked a Yemeni fishing dhow to use as a mother ship. Since this was not a Netherlands flagged ship, they were not in Netherlands waters and none of the hostages were citizens of the Netherlands they freed the pirates to commit more piracy another day. pirate filed a lawsuit against Germany Tuesday for what he called his inhumane
treatment since being handed over to Kenyan authorities, court documents said.

The German navy patrolling the Gulf of Aden captured the plaintiff,
identified as Ali Mohamed A.D., last month when he allegedly tried to seize a
freighter, the MV Courier.

He was transferred to Kenya along with eight
other Somali suspects for prosecution in the port city of Mombasa under an EU
agreement with the east African country.

The plaintiff's lawyer Oliver
Wallasch said his client was seeking 10,000 euros (13,300 dollars) from the
German government before the Berlin regional court for damages incurred after
his "unlawful" transfer to Kenya.

One can only hope the U.S. Navy can conceal the identities of the Navy Seals who killed these pirates otherwise they could face arrest outside the United States.

As for the 16 year old pirate the U.S.N. managed to take alive, he will soon become the next Omar Khadr. Network talking heads will no doubt argue that prosecuting this young man will encourage even more young men from Somalia will enter the pirate trade and Democratic Party Congressmen will rise to intone that America is not living up to it's highest ideals by being punitive. Had he been captured by the British Royal Navy he could have claimed political asylum under the European Human Rights Act and lived a life of leisure at British taxpayer expense for the rest of his life. If he is smart he will give U.S. intelligence agencies information on Somali pirate operations and disappear into witness protection on U.S. taxpayer tab.

In a major rant published on Foreign Policy website Freeman blamed the Jewish Lobby for torpedoing his appointment or in his words “The tactics of the Israel Lobby plumb the depths of dishonor and indecency… The aim of this Lobby is control of the policy process through the exercise of a veto over the appointment of people who dispute the wisdom of its views… and the exclusion of any and all options for decision by Americans and our government other than those that it favors.” The real reason was his financial ties to real and potential adversaries to the the United States.

because House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was angered by his support for Beijing’s
repression of Chinese democracy activists, which she described as “beyond the
pale.” Freeman’s animus towards Israel apparently played no role in the White

The latent violence of these failed states have been exported to the west while the hysterical impoverished people there applaud the barbaric, self-destructive actions of the children they have raised.

Now the United Nations General Assembly wants to impose a ban on defaming religion in general and Islam in particular. The truth is irrelevant, if an aggrieved party is offended by criticism of Islam or Muhammad. For example to say that Islam is not a religion as such but a geo-political movement much like Nazism or Communism which should be considered fair comment would be punishable as blasphemy.

The concept of the right to freedom of speech is being inverted from the United Nations to the Dominion of Canada. The U.N. In Canada the media was supposed to be the watchdog over government now it is proposed that the government be the watchdog over the media through compulsory "Press Councils."

It is a sorry state of affairs indeed that a parliament whose liberties have been forged through centuries of religious intolerance should succumb to the threats of one intolerant Muslim. Lord Ahmed is manifesting a notion of Divine Right, and one suspects it is precisely the sort of defence of Islam that Prince Charles shall make when he is sworn ‘Defender of Faith’. The blasphemy laws are being re-forged to protect one god, one faith and one prophet; they no longer defend YHWH, Christianity, Jesus Christ or the Church of England. Lord Ahmed is not functioning as a Labour peer; he is the self-appointed khalifa of all things Islamic. He is not concerned to protect freedom of expression or freedom of speech, but to stifle debate and ensure that Parliament submits to the Dar Al-Islam.

It is for moments such as these that one might hope the Lords Spiritual might enter the fray and defend the right of the noble baroness to extend an invitation to a democratically-elected Dutch MP. Geert Wilders to sue Jacqui Smith over decision to deport controversial film-maker

The legal action would have the backing of the Dutch Government, in a move which could aggravate the diplomatic row over the ban between London and Amsterdam.

Mr Wilders said he was looking to take legal action against the Home Secretary for "blatant discrimination" in the High Court or International Court in the Hague.

The Dutch Politician and film maker was sent back to Holland on Thursday night after trying to enter Britain to show his anti Muslim film Fitna in the House of Lords.

Mr Wilders had been invited to Westminster by Ukip peer Lord Pearson to show is 17 minute film Fitna, which criticise the Koran as a "facist book".

Mr Wilders is being encouraged to sue the Government by Maxime Verhagen, the Dutch foreign minister who is still furious with the Home Office's decision.

He said he would back Wilders in a possible decision to bring a case against the British Government's "disgraceful decision".

Islam group urges forest fire jihad

AUSTRALIA has been singled out as a target for "forest jihad" by a group of Islamic extremists urging Muslims to deliberately light bushfires as a weapon of terror.

US intelligence channels earlier this year identified a website calling on Muslims in Australia, the US, Europe and Russia to "start forest fires", claiming "scholars have justified chopping down and burning the infidels' forests when they do the same to our lands".

The website, posted by a group called the Al-Ikhlas Islamic Network, argues in Arabic that lighting fires is an effective form of terrorism justified in Islamic law under the "eye for an eye" doctrine.

The posting - which instructs jihadis to remember "forest jihad" in summer months - says fires cause economic damage and pollution, tie up security agencies and can take months to extinguish so that "this terror will haunt them for an extended period of time".

"Imagine if, after all the losses caused by such an event, a jihadist organisation were to claim responsibility for the forest fires," the website says. "You can hardly begin to imagine the level of fear that would take hold of people in the United States, in Europe, in Russia and in Australia."

With the nation heading into another hot, dry summer, Australian intelligence agencies are treating the possibility that bushfires could be used as a weapon of terrorism as a serious concern.

Attorney-General Robert McClelland said the Federal Government remained "vigilant against such threats", warning that anyone caught lighting a fire as a weapon of terror would feel the wrath of anti-terror laws.

"Any information that suggests a threat to Australia's interests is investigated by relevant agencies as appropriate," Mr McClelland said.

Adam Dolnik, director of research at the University of Wollongong's Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention, said that bushfires (unlike suicide bombing) were generally not considered a glorious type of attack by jihadis, in keeping with a recent decline in the sophistication of terrorist operations.

"With attacks like bushfires, yes, it would be easy. It would be very damaging and we do see a decreasing sophistication as a part of terrorist attacks," Dr Dolnik said.

"In recent years, there have been quite a few attacks averted and it has become more and more difficult for groups to do something effective."

Dr Dolnik said he had observed an increase in traffic on jihadi websites calling for a simplification of terrorist attacks because the more complex operations had been failing. But starting bushfires was still often regarded as less effective than other operations because governments could easily deny terrorism as the cause.

The internet posting by the little-known group claimed the idea of forest fires had been attributed to imprisoned Al Qaeda leader Abu Musab Al-Suri. It said Al-Suri had urged terrorists to use sulphuric acid and petrol to start forest fires.

It is still winter in the Northern Hemisphere but the summer of 2009 will see an enormous increase in forest fires. No doubt this will be blamed on "Global Warming" or "Climate Change" and even if some arsonists are apprehended any suggestion that they may have been politically motivated by radical Islam will be denounced as "Islamaphopia" and a hate crime. (As an aside the word radical is derived from Latin word for root) The market for lumber has really tanked with the collapse of the housing market so there will be lots of loggers available to fight all these forest fires. Lets just hope these arsonists are stupid enough to torch forests already devastated by the pine beetle.

Guantánamo, the Patriot Act, Iraq, renditions, etc.—followed by "all that for now stays the same" inasmuch as we haven't ben hit in over seven years and can't risk another attack. Fifth, Gibbs as press secretary is a Scott McClellan nightmare that won't go away, given his long McClellan-like relationship with Obama (McClellan should have been fired on day hour one on the job). Blaming Fox News for Obama's calamities is McClellan to the core and doesn't work. He already reminds me of Reverend Wright's undoing at the National Press Club—and he will get worse. Six, Biden is being Biden. Already, he's ridiculed the chief justice, trashed the former VP, bragged on himself ad nauseam in Bidenesque weird ways, and it's only been two weeks. And the result of all this?At home, Obama is becoming laughable and laying the groundwork for the greatest conservative populist reaction since the Reagan Revolution. Abroad, some really creepy people are lining up to test Obama's world view of "Bush did it/but I am the world": The North Koreans are readying their missiles; the Iranians are calling us passive, bragging on nukes and satellites; Russia is declaring missile defense is over and the Euros in real need of iffy Russian gas; Pakistanis say no more drone attacks (and then our friends the Indians say "shut up" about Kashmir and the Euros order no more "buy American").This is quite serious. I can't recall a similarly disastrous start in a half-century (far worse than Bill Clinton's initial slips). Obama immediately must lower the hope-and-change rhetoric, ignore Reid/Pelosi, drop the therapy, and accept the tragic view that the world abroad is not misunderstood but quite dangerous. And he must listen on foreign policy to his National Security Advisor, Billary, and the Secretary of Defense. If he doesn't quit the messianic style and perpetual campaign mode, and begin humbly governing, then he will devolve into Carterism—angry that the once-fawning press betrayed him while we the people, due to our American malaise, are to blame.

Methinks the honeymoon is over. Perhaps the M.S.M. will come to realize that Obama's greatest strategic goal is to undermine American values, he is an acolyte of Saul Alinsky the neo-marxist. He has already trashed America by misrepresenting its history and grovelling to his country's enemies like Iran. The Iranians have, wisely enough, dismissed him with undisguised contempt. It is refreshing to find a blogger, especially a Muslim, who dares state the obvious. A kuffer, such as your humble scribe, blogs in safely in obscurity while the author of the blog quoted above might end up on the receiving end of a fatwa or thought an apostate. That could be downright dangerous.
Would world opinion be different if Christians and/or Jews were responsible for these atrocities in Dafur? Rather than ignore it the U.N. Security Council would have ended it years ago if Christians, Jews or even agnostics were behind it. That is a no brainer.
Why the difference you might ask? Because of soft bigotry of lowered expectations. World opinion expects civilized behavior from Christians & Jews but takes for granted Islamists will act like savages even against their coreligionists.
"He who does not disapprove, approves" and "He who does not prevent what he is able to prevent, is considered as committing the thing" are basic maxims in law. The United Nations is complicit in this genocide. Imagine if President Obama ordered the U.S. military intervention to stop this genocide. Mass demonstrations would erupt throughout the world with calls to "End this Illegal War" and "No blood for oil." The world is content to allow the genocide in Dafur to continue.

If you say that Islam is a violent faith, you are accused of being anti-Islam and you are propagating “Islamophobia.” Below are some quotations from the Koran. We begin with what the “holy book” of Muslims says about people of other religions.

According to the Koran and many Muslims, Christians and Jews have left the true path of
their religion. Therefore, they are infidels (unbelievers) like Buddhists and Hindus, for example. In other words, according to the Koran, only Muslims, i.e. 19% of the world population, are true believers. The rest are “unbelievers” and “infidels.”

Literally, the Koran says the following about the Jews, Christians, and other “unbelievers:”

“O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.” (Sura 5, verse 51).

“And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah DESTROY them; how they are turned away!” (Sura 9, verse 30).

“And the Jews will not be pleased with you, nor the Christians until you follow their religion. Say: Surely Allah's guidance, that is the (true) guidance. And if you follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to you, you shall have no guardian from Allah, nor any helper.” (Sura 2, verse 120).

“And KILL them (the unbelievers) wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers.” (Sura 2, verse 191).

“Let not the believers take the unbelievers for friends rather than believers; and whoever does this, he shall have nothing of (the guardianship of) Allah, but you should guard yourselves against them, guarding carefully; and Allah makes you cautious of (retribution from) Himself;
and to Allah is the eventual coming.” (Sura 3, verse 28).

“And guard yourselves against the fire which has been prepared for the unbelievers.”
(Sura 3, verse 131)

“And when you journey in the earth, there is no blame on you if you shorten the prayer, if you fear that those who disbelieve will cause you distress, surely the unbelievers are your open ENEMY.” (Sura 4, verse 101).

“O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).” (Sura 9, verse 123).

“Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire.” (Sura
76, verse 4).

“O you who believe! if you obey a party from among those who have been given the Book (The Jews and Christians), they will turn you back as unbelievers after you have believed.” (Sura 3, verse 100).

“And their taking usury (interests on money) though indeed they were forbidden it and their devouring the property of people falsely, and We have prepared for the unbelievers from among them a painful chastisement.” (Sura 4. verse 161).

“Surely Allah has cursed the unbelievers (Jews, Christians and followers of other faiths) and has prepared for them a burning fire.” (Sura 33, verse 64).

“And whoever does not believe in Allah and His Apostle, then surely We have prepared burning fire for the unbelievers.” (Sura 48, verse 13).

Does Allah discriminate? The Koran says:

“You are the best of the nations raised up for (the benefit of) men; you enjoin what is right and forbid the wrong and believe in Allah; and if the followers of the Book had believed it would have been better for them; of them (some) are believers and most of them are transgressors.” (Sura 3, verse 110).

Therefore, what does the Koran say about those who turn their back to Islam and commit apostasy?

“They desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them (the unbelievers) friends until they flee (their homes) in Allah's way; but if they turn back, then seize them and KILL them wherever
you find them, and take not from among them a friend or a helper.” (Sura 4, verse 89).

Now, what does the Koran say about women? Here are some quotations:

“Men are superior to women because Allah has made so. Therefore good women are obedient, and (as to) those (women) on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and BEAT them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.” (Sura 4, verse 34).

“And as for those who are guilty of an indecency from among your women, call to witnesses against them, four (witnesses) from among you; then if they bear witness confine them to the
houses until death takes them away or Allah opens some way for them.” (Sura 4,
verse 15).

According to the Koran, a woman’s testimony is worth half of that of a man.

“O you who believe! when you deal with each other in contracting a debt for a fixed time then call in to witness from among your men two witnesses; but if there are not two men, then one man and two women from among those whom you choose to be witnesses, so that if one of the two errs, the second of the two may remind the other.” (Sura 2, verse 282).

As far as sex is concerned, women are sex objects, according to the Koran. They must be ready for intercourse any time the husband wishes so.

“Your wives are a tilth for you, so go into your tilth when you like, and do good beforehand for yourselves, and be careful (of your duty) to Allah, and know that you will meet Him, and give good news to the believers.” (Sura 2, verse 223).

During menstruation, however, men should keep away from women; they are filthy. The Koran says:

“It (menstruation) is a discomfort; therefore keep aloof from the women during the menstrual discharge and do not go near them until they have become clean; then when they have cleansed themselves, go in to them as Allah has commanded you; surely Allah loves those who turn much (to Him), and He loves those who purify themselves.” (Sura 2, verse 222).

Women, according to the Koran, are, in general, unclean creature. After a Muslim has washed and prepared himself for prayer, he should not touch a woman. Therefore, “pious” Muslims
never shake hands with women.

“O you who believe! do not go near prayer until you have washed yourselves; and if you have touched women, and you cannot find water, betake yourselves to pure earth, then wipe your faces and your hands; surely Allah is Pardoning, Forgiving.” (Sura 4, verse 43).

In case of inheritance, a woman inherits half of the portion a man inherits:

“They ask you for a decision of the law. Say: Allah gives you a decision concerning the person who has neither parents nor offspring; if a man dies (and) he has no son and he has a sister, she shall have half of what he leaves, and he shall be her heir she has no son; but if there be two (sisters), they shall have two-thirds of what he leaves; and if there are brethren, men and
women, then the male shall have the like of the portion of two females; Allah makes clear to you, lest you err; and Allah knows all things.” (Sura 4, verse
176).

And what kind of punishment does a thief get, according to the Koran, regardless how much they steal?

“And (as for) the man who steals and the woman who steals, cut off their hands as a punishment for what they have earned, an exemplary punishment from Allah; and Allah is
Mighty, Wise.” (Sura 5, verse 38).

Here in the West exposing Islam for what it is can and often is described as hate mongering. Instead of refuting these assertions Islamists demand prosecutions for violating their human right not to be offended by the truth. The truth is that Islam is offended by the very existence of western civilization. Hate is considered a vice but it is only an emotion, besides hating racism, sexism and injustices is not wrong. People who love arson, slavery, pedophilia and death cannot be considered virtuous.

If you love the Islamic terror manual, the Quran, and what it perpetrates, that’s bad love. If you hate all the terrible things that Islam advocates and carries out, that’s good hate.

Wilders Prosecution is a Welcome Opportunity to Expose Islam

The Court of Appeal that ordered the prosecution of Gert Wilders for promoting hatred - apparently in the Netherlands inciting an emotion is a crime - prerhaps because they think it is already too late to stop the Islamization of the Netherlands. By being good dhimmies and offering Gert Wilders as a token of their submission the Islamo-fascists might let them live is the reason they prostrate themselves before the pagan Arab moon god Allah.

Tariq Ramadan said, “My brothers and sisters, we must exploit the so-called democracy and freedom of speech here in the West to reach our goals. Our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and the Koran teach us that we must use every conceivable means and opportunity to defeat the enemies of Allah. Tell the infidels in public, we respect your laws and your constitutions, which we Muslims believe that these are as worthless as the paper they are written on. The only law we must respect and apply is the Shari’s.”

Oddly enough this freedom of speech here in the West does not apply to those who express misgivings about the establishment of Sharia Law here in the West. Various Human Rights Commissions here in Canada, if they do not censor criticism of Islam outright, will use the process as punishment. Unless an effective critic (someone many people will listen to) has a few hundred thousand dollars to spare to pay lawyers - like MacLeans - such a critic will be ground up long before these kangaroo courts pass judgement. Since your humble blogger can count his readers with the fingers of one hand such a fate is unlikely to befall him.

Gert Wilders called for the Netherlands to ban the Quran like Mein Kamph is already banned in that country. This is a mistake in both cases, but especially for the Quran. If it becomes widely known Islam is based on this hateful, misogynous. fascist tome then it will be regarded like Nazism. When the words of the prophet are written on subway walls and tenement halls then all that will be heard from this vile ideology will be the sounds of silence. That is why al-Qaeda has issued a $60 million bounty on the head of Zakaria Botros a Coptic priest and CAIR accuses him of hate crimes.
There is little ambiguity Islamic texts so the more widely known the better. Robert Spencer, Gert Wilders, Fr. Zakaria and even the Jihadist themselves (by their works shall you know them) are doing a great job exposing Islam for what it is.

Last we left the Coptic priest, he was reading from hadith reports stating that the prophet of Islam “admired” a 2-3 year old girl (saying that he hoped to live long enough to make her his wife), and “laid” in the grave with a dead woman.

In this episode, he began with the prophet’s “transvestite” tendencies. He read from several hadiths, including Sahih Bukhari—Fr Botros claims that there are no less than 32 different references to this phenomenon in Islam’s books—wherein Muhammad often laid in bed dressed in women’s clothes, specifically his child-bride Aisha’s.
Fr. Botros: “Perhaps Muslims think that he only dressed in Aisha’s clothes? Being that she was his “favorite,” perhaps after being intimate with her, he would merely lay in bed with her clothes?” (Here the priest put his face in his hands lamenting that he had to talk of such shameful things.)
Then he offered an interesting and revealing hadith, from Sahih Bukhari (2/911), which records Muhammad saying, “Revelations [i.e., the Koran] never come to me when I’m dressed in women’s clothing—except when I’m dressed in Aisha’s,” implying that it was something of a habit for the prophet to dress in female clothing.
Fr Botros next moved on to some commentaries in the Tafsir of al-Qurtubi—an authoritative exegesis in Islam. He read one anecdote where Aisha said that, one day, while Muhammad was lying naked in bed, Zaid came knocking; Muhammad, without getting dressed, opened the door and “hugged and kissed him”—in the nude. Elsewhere, Qurtubi concludes that, “the prophet—prayers and blessings upon him—was constantly preoccupied with women.”
Fr Botros to Muslims: “So this is your prophet—the most morally upright man? Instead of being preoccupied with, say, prayer or good deeds, he was preoccupied with women?”
He next read from Faid al-Qabir (3/371), wherein Muhammad is on record saying, “My greatest loves are women and perfume: the hungry is satisfied after eating, but I never have enough of women.” Another hadith: “I can hold back from food and drink—but not from women.” After reading these hadiths, Fr Botros would just look at the screen in silence, shaking his head.

It would seem that according to Islamic texts that the "Prophet of Islam" was sexual pervert but accurately quoting these texts constitutes defaming Islam according to Sharia Law. In Canada the truth is no defense to respondents accused of spreading hatred under Human Rights law a fact not lost on Imams in Canada.

2009 - A Year to Defend Free Speech

On March 28 of last year, the UN hit rock bottom. Its Human Rights Council—whose members include such stalwart defenders of freedom as China, Cuba, Angola, and Saudi Arabia—adopted a resolution that severely modified the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression. Instead of simply reporting on cases in which the right to free expression is being violated, the special rapporteur will now also have to report on cases in which that right is being “abused”—including when individuals use their freedom of speech to criticize Islam, or the particular elements of Islam that jihadists use to justify violence and Islamic supremacism. In essence, this means that the function of the special rapporteur has changed 180 degrees—from safeguarding the rights of individuals who hold unpopular or controversial ideas, to trying to limit the freedom of individuals to express such ideas.

It is official: the United Nations is opposed to the concept of free speech. Some might say this only applies to objectionable speech except that unobjectionable speech needs no protection. In the Netherlands not just Gert Wilders but critics of Islam have come under sanction:

Publish in a blog that the Prophet Muhammad was a murderer, rapist and pedophile according to Islamic teaching, upload a video to YouTube showing Muslim demonstrators behaving like Nazi SA Brownshirts, mention the fact that the word "Jihad" means struggle and "Mien Kamf" means my struggle, suggest that Islam is not a religion like Christianity but a geo-political movement like Communism or Fascism could get one sent to prison, even in Canada. The Canadian Human Rights Commission has the power to search and seize evidence without warrant even in private homes, hold hearings without observing legal procedures - where truth is no defence - and freedom of speech is an "American concept" which has no value. Times have changed a great deal. Now the votaries of the book he saw as such an impediment to peace have triumphed: an Islamic reading room is being set up at the library Gladstone founded near his home in North Wales. In this BBC audio report (thanks to Andrew), Gladstone's great grandson Christopher Parish and Professor Richard Aldous, head of history at University College Dublin, tie themselves into knots trying to come up with a reason why Gladstone would have approved of this reading room. Gladstone, you see, was a man of his time, but he actually made favorable comments about Muhammad in the margins of a biography of the founder of Islam, and his remarks weren't as extreme as those of some of his contemporaries...
It doesn't add up. The text of the Qur'an has not changed from the late 19th century to the early 21st. What has changed is the prevailing attitude toward the book. Now it has become a manifestation of bigotry and hatred to see in the Islamic holy book anything but peace and tolerance. But the text of the book remains the same. If it was an impediment to peace in Gladstone's day, it is now. If it is an uplifting exhortation to peace and tolerance now, then it was in Gladstone's day as well."

The Nineteenth Century was not an era of moral relativism. The Victorians, often portrayed as narrow minded and bigoted, did in fact possess a moral clarity lacking today. It was the century where slavery was abolished because of Christian religious fervor, a feat that would be impossible today, indeed slavery is making a comeback in our 21st. Prior to the Great War (WWI) a world traveler, a la Phinias Fogg, could circumnavigate the globe without presenting any government issued identity documents, a freedom now impossible. Today "Human Rights Commissions" regularly prosecute people for expressing offensive opinions while in the Nineteenth Century Darwin published On the Origin of Species but was never the victim of legal sanction. Now in the early 21st Century it is difficult to imagine how an equally unorthodox theory could be published without some sort of government sanction.

If you want to keep something secret it means you have something to hide. What they are trying to hide is that Islam is not a religion as such but a geo-political movement much like Communism or Nazism bent on world domination. Hiding under the guise of religion then any criticism of Islam must be regarded as blasphemy, or racism, (What race is Islam?) and punished severely. Gert Wilders has been virtually convicted in advance of his trial for spreading hatred of Islam for merely quoting the already revealed (by Islamic Radicals) agenda of Islam. Simply stating the obvious like Hitler authored a book entitled Mien Kamf (my struggle) and the Arabic word "Jihad" mean the same thing is a crime. Mentioning the fact that Hitler admired the Islamic religion and despised "flabby Christianity" and regarded the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem (Arafat's uncle) as a kindred spirit is all hate speech because the truth is no defence. Organize a demonstration calling for "Death for the Jews" is just an aspect of political discourse and free speech. Mention the fact that Muhammad married a six year old girl, Aisha, consummated the marriage when she was nine - all according to Islamic scholars - thus suggesting that he was a pedophile is criminal offence. This is the death of reason.

(As an historical aside it should be noted that a direct ancestor of Winston Churchill, John Churchill - Duke of Marlborough, advised Prince Eugene of Savoy at the Battle of Zenta on 11 September 1697 where the Ottoman Turks were decisively defeated.) In the Netherlands, like Canada, it is possible for the Imams of Islam to presue religious Fatwas through the courts and like Canada freedom of speech is a dying concept. Freedom from being offended trumps freedom to express the truth.

• Dutch authorities will file charges against a lawmaker for inciting religious hatred in speeches and a film he made about Islam last year, an Amsterdam district prosecutor told CNN Wednesday.Prosecutors had originally decided not to press charges against Geert Wilders, 43, a member of parliament for the right-wing Party for Freedom.
  "We thought a conviction would not be possible," prosecutor Otto Van Der Bijl told CNN. But nine people filed complaints with the Court of Appeal, he said. The court found there was a "reasonable suspicion that Mr. Wilders is guilty of the charges and the prosecution should in fact proceed."
  Wilders blasted the court decision as "an all-out assault on freedom of speech," in a statement posted on his party's Web site.
  "Apparently this is the Netherlands today. If you speak out you might be prosecuted. To participate in public debate has become a dangerous activity," he said in the statement, which also called for donations to the party to help him fight the charges in court.

Judging by the hysterical response to the war by demonstrators in Europe and North America it seem strange to see the calm in Islamic countries. There were violent demonstrations in London while Damascus was serene. Even in mild mannered Canada demonstrators were chanting anti-Semitic slogans while in the West Bank a call by the Arab League for mass demonstrations was ignored. Why do fellow Arabs seemed so unconcerned by the plight of Hamas in Gaza?

• The answer lies in the way many Arab regimes view militant Islam, as represented by Hamas. The West has come to view Muslim militancy as one of its biggest threats in the 21st century but for many Arab countries including Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Saudi Arabia the same threat has existed for much longer.

Back in 1982 the Muslim Brotherhood a militant Islamic organization much like Hamas started making guerrilla attacks on Syrian police from their base in Hama. Then President , Hafez al Assad, ordered the Syrian army to shell this unfortunate town killing over 20,000 people, mostly civilians, but I do not recall any demonstrations or U.N. resolutions condemning Syria for a "disproportionate response." Egypt has a blockade on the Gaza border but no Hamas rockets have rained on Egyptians out of the justifiable fear that President Hosni Mubarak would show the same tolerance. There is a myth, mostly in western democracies, that there is some sort of Pan-Arabism that unites them as one. They are as divided by self interest as nations everywhere.

Al-Qaeda: medieval in all ways

Rarely is there good news about the war on terror but there are some glad tidings from Algeria.

"40 members of AQLIM (al-Qaeda in the Land of the Islamic Maghreb), the largest Al-Qaeda group outside the Middle East have died by the Black Death.
The plague, responsible for the deaths of an estimated 75 million people world wide during the 14th century, swept through the AQLIM training at a forest camp in Algeria, North Africa, and was only discovered when security forces found a body by a roadside.
According to The Sun, Al-Qaeda chiefs fear the plague may have been passed to other terror cells, and even Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. One security source quoted by the paper said 'This is the deadliest weapon yet in the war against terror. Most of the terrorists do not have the basic medical supplies needed to treat the disease. It spreads quickly and kills within hours. This will be really worrying al-Qaeda.'
There is believed to be 1,000 terrorists attached to the camp where the outbreak took place, with many reported fleeing to other camps, potentially spreading the disease."

Perhaps this is the Will of Allah that these Jihadists will achieve martyrdom or perhaps some biological device misfired in a training accident. (a really big buboe?)

• Authorities in the first week of January intercepted an urgent communication between the leadership of al Qaeda in the Land of the Maghreb (AQIM) and al Qaeda’s leadership in the tribal region of Pakistan on the border with Afghanistan. The communication suggested that an area sealed to prevent leakage of a biological or chemical substance had been breached, according to the official.

This is still good news and one can only hope that it will spread to the caves of Hindu Kush. A infection that is easily treated if diagnosed early and treated with the right medicines would be deadly among medieval minded Muslims.

The Islamo-Fascists are right about one thing: peace in Palestine will only come when the Jews are either killed or evicted "from the Jordan River to the sea." Hamas may respect this Hudna for six months or so but the war will go on and on or until what is now a prosperous nation is turned into a desert, then they will call it peace.

  This famous maxim by the ancient Chinese general Sun Tzu is familiar to every student of military science and strategy. His counsel is simple: understand your enemy, understand yourself. Nearly eight years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, however, important segments of our military infrastructure dedicated to training and educating the next generation of military leaders have woefully failed to heed Sun Tzu’s advice. Two recent blog posts by Washington Post military correspondent Tom Ricks related to policies and publications by the U.S. Army War College give evidence to this strategic collapse in the War on Terror.
  Two weeks ago, Ricks reported on a new publication by Army War College research professor Sherifa Zuhur on Hamas and Israel that informs readers that Hamas has been misunderstood due to the misreporting by “Israeli and Western sources that villainize the group.” Zuhur concludes that Hamas isn’t so bad after all, so we all just need to get along and embrace the terrorist group through negotiations — a view apparently endorsed by the Army War College when it published her defense of Hamas.
  A second post last week, “Fiasco at the Army War College: The Sequel,” records an exchange between Ricks and defense expert and author Mark Perry. Assessing the academic state of affairs at the War College, Perry informed Ricks:
  It’s worse than you think. They have curtailed the curriculum so that their students are not exposed to radical Islam. Akin to denying students access to Marx during the Cold War.
  This is hardly the first complaint that the military has failed to investigate and assess the strategic writings related to radical Islam and Islamic war doctrine. William Gawthrop, former head of the Joint Terrorism Task Force of the Defense Department’s Counterintelligence Field Activity, says in a military intelligence journal article that:
  As late as early 2006, the senior service colleges of the Department of Defense had not incorporated into their curriculum a systematic study of Muhammad as a military or political leader. As a consequence, we still do not have an in-depth understanding of the war-fighting doctrine laid down by Muhammad, how it might be applied today by an increasing number of Islamic groups, or how it might be countered. (”The Sources and Patterns of Terrorism in Islamic Law,” The Vanguard: Journal of the Military Intelligence Corps Association, 11:4 [Fall 2006], p. 10)

Even after the events of 9/11 the intelligentsia still is not clear on the concept of what Islamo-Fascism is all about. It is about creating a world wide caliphate and converting to Islam whom they can and killing those they cannot. This has been their agenda since the days of Mohammad and they will use any means from persuasion, to deceit and ultimately violence to get there. The Saudis regards the deeds of Osama bin Laden as being premature but they share the same goal. "Moderate Islam" and "radical Islam" is just a variation old good cop versus bad cop routine. Anybody who has studied this issue knows this or is guilty of wishful thinking, or worse.

There is something really perverse in an aging cleric under the guise of religious faith urging young men (likely sexually inexperienced) to engage in suicidal violence for the reward of unlimited sexual favours in the afterlife. He goes on to say:
“The reason for the 1967 defeat, for the 1948 calamity, for the loss of all our lands, for the fall of Baghdad, for the occupation, for Darfur, for the problems in South Sudan, for the colonialism that lasted throughout the 20th century is our hatred of death. Sheikh Amin and I reached the TV station together, and without arranging this in advance, we decided to come here to fight the hatred of death. We must love death, just like the companions of the Prophets."

Incidentally the title phrase comes from a responsory of the Catholic Office of the Dead, which you may find a more nuanced concept of death.

Yes indeed it is human nature to hate those whom you have wronged. Having fired over 7000 rockets into Israel over the past few years it is only natural that Hamas would hate Israelites. While the I.D.F. has given Hamas quite a beating since 17 December 08 and this war may seem to be heading into endgame, the Jihadist fighters still have lots of women and children to hide behind. As long as Iran keeps their proxy well stocked with money and weapons, the U.N. will supply food and medical necessities which Hamas may steal at their leisure, this war may continue for some time yet.

Israel may wrap things up by the Barrak Hussien Obama Inauguration come 20 January as not to rain on his parade as it were. Besides CNN will be preoccupied and as we all know wars are not won on the battlefield anymore but on TV.

I recall something said about the Nazis that went something like this: First they came for the communists but I did not care because I was not a communist. Then they came for the Jews but I did not care because I was not Jewish. Then they came for the Christians but I did not care because I was not a Christian. Then they came for me and there was nobody left to care.

• WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Pentagon said on Tuesday (13 Jan 09) that 61 former detainees from its military prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, appear to have returned to terrorism since their release from custody.
  Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said 18 former detainees are confirmed as "returning to the fight" and 43 are suspected of having done in a report issued late in December by the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Somehow the logic of this "catch and release" program escapes me. Being from Canukistan I have gotten used to the perversity of the Canadian Penitentiary Service and the National Parole Board but I really thought Americans were smarter than that. The Geneva Convention does permit the indefinite detention of prisoners of war, usually these prisoners may be held until hostilities have ended. The war on terror may go on for decades but that is no excuse to let these dangerous Jihadists loose.

  Almost 500 years ago, on the wall of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany, Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses, characterizing as "madness" the notion that papal pardons could absolve individuals for their sins. As viewed from Rome, Luther had maligned, even defamed, the church. Luther was eventually excommunicated. His conduct ultimately led to the creation of a Protestant Church in Germany and a Reformation throughout Europe.
  It is difficult to believe that in the 21st century anyone would seriously propose that conduct such as Luther's should be deemed illegal. But a few weeks ago, the General Assembly of the United Nations took a giant step in that direction. It adopted - for the fourth straight year - a resolution prepared by the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference calling upon all UN nations to adopt legislation banning the "defamation" of religion. Spurred by the Danish cartoons of 2005, some of which portrayed the Prophet Muhammed in a manner deemed offensive by the OIC, the resolution was opposed by the United States, most European nations, Japan, India and a number of other nations.
  Nonetheless, it has now been adopted.
