They take considerable umbrage that the Roman Catholic Church will not admit women to the priesthood but seem oblivious to honour killings done in the name of Islam. They must think this is just another quaint custom, like suttee in the Hindu religion, which enrich the multicultural mosaic which is Canada.

Julius Caesar and the Cilician Pirates

In 75 BC, Julius Caesar was captured by Cilician pirates, who infested the Mediterranean sea. The Romans had never sent a navy against them, because the pirates offered the Roman senators slaves, which they needed for their plantations in Italy. As a consequence, piracy was common.
In chapter 2 of his Life of Julius Caesar, the Greek author Plutarch of Chaeronea (46-c.120) describes what happened when Caesar encountered the pirates. The translation below was made by Robin Seager.


First, when the pirates demanded a ransom of twenty talents, Caesar burst out laughing. They did not know, he said, who it was that they had captured, and he volunteered to pay fifty. Then, when he had sent his followers to the various cities in order to raise the money and was left with one friend and two servants among these Cilicians, about the most bloodthirsty people in the world, he treated them so highhandedly that, whenever he wanted to sleep, he would send to them and tell them to stop talking.
For thirty-eight days, with the greatest unconcern, he joined in all their games and exercises, just as if he was their leader instead of their prisoner. He also wrote poems and speeches which he read aloud to them, and if they failed to admire his work, he would call them to their faces illiterate savages, and would often laughingly threaten to have them all hanged. They were much taken with this and attributed his freedom of speech to a kind of simplicity in his character or boyish playfulness.
However, the ransom arrived from Miletus and, as soon as he had paid it and been set free, he immediately manned some ships and set sail from the harbor of Miletus against the pirates. He found them still there, lying at anchor off the island, and he captured nearly all of them. He took their property as spoils of war and put the men themselves into the prison at Pergamon. He then went in person to [Marcus] Junius, the governorof Asia, thinking it proper that he, as praetor in charge of the province, should see to the punishment of the prisoners. Junius, however, cast longing eyes at the money, which came to a considerable sum, and kept saying that he needed time to look into the case.
Caesar paid no further attention to him. He went to Pergamon, took the pirates out of prison and crucified the lot of them, just as he had often told them he would do when he was on the island and they imagined that he was joking.

Contrast this with the catch and release policy of the NATO. Dutch commandos capture Somali pirates who hijacked a Yemeni fishing dhow to use as a mother ship. Since this was not a Netherlands flagged ship, they were not in Netherlands waters and none of the hostages were citizens of the Netherlands they freed the pirates to commit more piracy another day. With rules of engagement like these it is unlikely that this plague of piracy will end anytime soon.

pirate filed a lawsuit against Germany Tuesday for what he called his inhumane
treatment since being handed over to Kenyan authorities, court documents said.

The German navy patrolling the Gulf of Aden captured the plaintiff,
identified as Ali Mohamed A.D., last month when he allegedly tried to seize a
freighter, the MV Courier.

He was transferred to Kenya along with eight
other Somali suspects for prosecution in the port city of Mombasa under an EU
agreement with the east African country.

The plaintiff's lawyer Oliver
Wallasch said his client was seeking 10,000 euros (13,300 dollars) from the
German government before the Berlin regional court for damages incurred after
his "unlawful" transfer to Kenya.

MOMBASA, Kenya - U.S. Navy snipers opened fire and killed three pirates holding an American captain at gunpoint, delivering the skipper unharmed and ending a five-day high-seas hostage drama on Easter Sunday.

One can only hope the U.S. Navy can conceal the identities of the Navy Seals who killed these pirates otherwise they could face arrest outside the United States.

As for the 16 year old pirate the U.S.N. managed to take alive, he will soon become the next Omar Khadr. Network talking heads will no doubt argue that prosecuting this young man will encourage even more young men from Somalia will enter the pirate trade and Democratic Party Congressmen will rise to intone that America is not living up to it's highest ideals by being punitive. Had he been captured by the British Royal Navy he could have claimed political asylum under the European Human Rights Act and lived a life of leisure at British taxpayer expense for the rest of his life. If he is smart he will give U.S. intelligence agencies information on Somali pirate operations and disappear into witness protection on U.S. taxpayer tab.

In a major rant published on Foreign Policy website Freeman blamed the Jewish Lobby for torpedoing his appointment or in his words “The tactics of the Israel Lobby plumb the depths of dishonor and indecency… The aim of this Lobby is control of the policy process through the exercise of a veto over the appointment of people who dispute the wisdom of its views… and the exclusion of any and all options for decision by Americans and our government other than those that it favors.” The real reason was his financial ties to real and potential adversaries to the the United States.

because House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was angered by his support for Beijing’s
repression of Chinese democracy activists, which she described as “beyond the
pale.” Freeman’s animus towards Israel apparently played no role in the White

Even within the borders of Canada and the United States there are many instances of "honour killings," female genital mutilation, the imposition of veiling on women and beatings of Muslim wives, daughters and sisters. The latent violence of these failed states have been exported to the west while the hysterical impoverished people there applaud the barbaric, self-destructive actions of the children they have raised.

Now the United Nations General Assembly wants to impose a ban on defaming religion in general and Islam in particular. The truth is irrelevant, if an aggrieved party is offended by criticism of Islam or Muhammad. For example to say that Islam is not a religion as such but a geo-political movement much like Nazism or Communism which should be considered fair comment would be punishable as blasphemy.

The concept of the right to freedom of speech is being inverted from the United Nations to the Dominion of Canada. The U.N. Human Rights Commission no longer protects individuals from arbitrary governments repressing free expression but now seeks prosecution for those "abusing free speech" to criticize government. In Canada the media was supposed to be the watchdog over government now it is proposed that the government be the watchdog over the media through compulsory "Press Councils."

It is a sorry state of affairs indeed that a parliament whose liberties have been forged through centuries of religious intolerance should succumb to the threats of one intolerant Muslim. Lord Ahmed is manifesting a notion of Divine Right, and one suspects it is precisely the sort of defence of Islam that Prince Charles shall make when he is sworn ‘Defender of Faith’. The blasphemy laws are being re-forged to protect one god, one faith and one prophet; they no longer defend YHWH, Christianity, Jesus Christ or the Church of England. Lord Ahmed is not functioning as a Labour peer; he is the self-appointed khalifa of all things Islamic. He is not concerned to protect freedom of expression or freedom of speech, but to stifle debate and ensure that Parliament submits to the Dar Al-Islam.

It is for moments such as these that one might hope the Lords Spiritual might enter the fray and defend the right of the noble baroness to extend an invitation to a democratically-elected Dutch MP. Clearly Lord Ahmed has succeeded in intimidating Parliament and the Government of Britain into declaring Gert Wilders "Persona non grata" by threatening to bring 10,000 Islamic demontrators to besiege the Parliament Buildings in London. In the sixteenth century Sir John Harrington wrote:

Geert Wilders to sue Jacqui Smith over decision to deport controversial film-maker

The legal action would have the backing of the Dutch Government, in a move which could aggravate the diplomatic row over the ban between London and Amsterdam.

Mr Wilders said he was looking to take legal action against the Home Secretary for "blatant discrimination" in the High Court or International Court in the Hague.

The Dutch Politician and film maker was sent back to Holland on Thursday night after trying to enter Britain to show his anti Muslim film Fitna in the House of Lords.

Mr Wilders had been invited to Westminster by Ukip peer Lord Pearson to show is 17 minute film Fitna, which criticise the Koran as a "facist book".

Mr Wilders is being encouraged to sue the Government by Maxime Verhagen, the Dutch foreign minister who is still furious with the Home Office's decision.

He said he would back Wilders in a possible decision to bring a case against the British Government's "disgraceful decision".

I don't respect the idea that a man was born of a virgin, walked on water and rose from the dead. I don't respect the idea that we should follow a "Prophet" who at the age of 53 had sex with a nine-year old girl, and ordered the murder of whole villages of Jews because they wouldn't follow him. I don't respect the idea that the West Bank was handed to Jews by God and the Palestinians should be bombed or bullied into surrendering it. Islam group urges forest fire jihad

AUSTRALIA has been singled out as a target for "forest jihad" by a group of Islamic extremists urging Muslims to deliberately light bushfires as a weapon of terror.

US intelligence channels earlier this year identified a website calling on Muslims in Australia, the US, Europe and Russia to "start forest fires", claiming "scholars have justified chopping down and burning the infidels' forests when they do the same to our lands".

The website, posted by a group called the Al-Ikhlas Islamic Network, argues in Arabic that lighting fires is an effective form of terrorism justified in Islamic law under the "eye for an eye" doctrine.

The posting - which instructs jihadis to remember "forest jihad" in summer months - says fires cause economic damage and pollution, tie up security agencies and can take months to extinguish so that "this terror will haunt them for an extended period of time".

"Imagine if, after all the losses caused by such an event, a jihadist organisation were to claim responsibility for the forest fires," the website says. "You can hardly begin to imagine the level of fear that would take hold of people in the United States, in Europe, in Russia and in Australia."

With the nation heading into another hot, dry summer, Australian intelligence agencies are treating the possibility that bushfires could be used as a weapon of terrorism as a serious concern.

Attorney-General Robert McClelland said the Federal Government remained "vigilant against such threats", warning that anyone caught lighting a fire as a weapon of terror would feel the wrath of anti-terror laws.

"Any information that suggests a threat to Australia's interests is investigated by relevant agencies as appropriate," Mr McClelland said.

Adam Dolnik, director of research at the University of Wollongong's Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention, said that bushfires (unlike suicide bombing) were generally not considered a glorious type of attack by jihadis, in keeping with a recent decline in the sophistication of terrorist operations.

"With attacks like bushfires, yes, it would be easy. It would be very damaging and we do see a decreasing sophistication as a part of terrorist attacks," Dr Dolnik said.

"In recent years, there have been quite a few attacks averted and it has become more and more difficult for groups to do something effective."

Dr Dolnik said he had observed an increase in traffic on jihadi websites calling for a simplification of terrorist attacks because the more complex operations had been failing. But starting bushfires was still often regarded as less effective than other operations because governments could easily deny terrorism as the cause.

The internet posting by the little-known group claimed the idea of forest fires had been attributed to imprisoned Al Qaeda leader Abu Musab Al-Suri. It said Al-Suri had urged terrorists to use sulphuric acid and petrol to start forest fires.

It is still winter in the Northern Hemisphere but the summer of 2009 will see an enormous increase in forest fires. No doubt this will be blamed on "Global Warming" or "Climate Change" and even if some arsonists are apprehended any suggestion that they may have been politically motivated by radical Islam will be denounced as "Islamaphopia" and a hate crime. (As an aside the word radical is derived from Latin word for root) The market for lumber has really tanked with the collapse of the housing market so there will be lots of loggers available to fight all these forest fires. Lets just hope these arsonists are stupid enough to torch forests already devastated by the pine beetle.

Guantánamo, the Patriot Act, Iraq, renditions, etc.—followed by "all that for now stays the same" inasmuch as we haven't ben hit in over seven years and can't risk another attack. Fifth, Gibbs as press secretary is a Scott McClellan nightmare that won't go away, given his long McClellan-like relationship with Obama (McClellan should have been fired on day hour one on the job). Blaming Fox News for Obama's calamities is McClellan to the core and doesn't work. He already reminds me of Reverend Wright's undoing at the National Press Club—and he will get worse. Six, Biden is being Biden. Already, he's ridiculed the chief justice, trashed the former VP, bragged on himself ad nauseam in Bidenesque weird ways, and it's only been two weeks. And the result of all this?At home, Obama is becoming laughable and laying the groundwork for the greatest conservative populist reaction since the Reagan Revolution. Abroad, some really creepy people are lining up to test Obama's world view of "Bush did it/but I am the world": The North Koreans are readying their missiles; the Iranians are calling us passive, bragging on nukes and satellites; Russia is declaring missile defense is over and the Euros in real need of iffy Russian gas; Pakistanis say no more drone attacks (and then our friends the Indians say "shut up" about Kashmir and the Euros order no more "buy American").This is quite serious. I can't recall a similarly disastrous start in a half-century (far worse than Bill Clinton's initial slips). Obama immediately must lower the hope-and-change rhetoric, ignore Reid/Pelosi, drop the therapy, and accept the tragic view that the world abroad is not misunderstood but quite dangerous. And he must listen on foreign policy to his National Security Advisor, Billary, and the Secretary of Defense. If he doesn't quit the messianic style and perpetual campaign mode, and begin humbly governing, then he will devolve into Carterism—angry that the once-fawning press betrayed him while we the people, due to our American malaise, are to blame.

Methinks the honeymoon is over. Perhaps the M.S.M. will come to realize that Obama's greatest strategic goal is to undermine American values, he is an acolyte of Saul Alinsky the neo-marxist. He has already trashed America by misrepresenting its history and grovelling to his country's enemies like Iran. The Iranians have, wisely enough, dismissed him with undisguised contempt. Would world opinion be different if Christians and/or Jews were responsible for these atrocities in Dafur? Rather than ignore it the U.N. Security Council would have ended it years ago if Christians, Jews or even agnostics were behind it. That is a no brainer.
Why the difference you might ask? Because of soft bigotry of lowered expectations. World opinion expects civilized behavior from Christians & Jews but takes for granted Islamists will act like savages even against their coreligionists.
